Excerpt from A Metrics Suite for Object Oriented Design
Following Wand and Weber, the theoretical base chosen for the 00 design metrics was the ontology of Bunge [4, 5, Six design metrics were developed. And analytically evaluated against a previously proposed set of measurement principles. An automated data collection tool was then developed and implemented to collect an empirical sample of these metrics at two field sites in order to demonstrate their feasibility and to suggest ways in which managers may use these metrics for process improvement.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book proposes a new suite of design metrics for object-oriented programming, rooted in measurement theory and the viewpoints of experienced software developers. It presents six design metrics that map to the essential features of object-oriented design: weighted methods per class, depth of inheritance tree, number of children, coupling between objects, response for a class, and lack of cohesion in methods. These metrics capture key aspects of object-oriented design, such as class complexity, inheritance, and communication between objects. Through analytical evaluation and empirical data from commercial projects, the author demonstrates the validity of these metrics and suggests how they can be used to assess the quality of object-oriented designs. This book provides valuable insights into the complexities of object-oriented design, helping developers and managers ensure the integrity and effectiveness of their software systems.
