The breeding of good draught stock has always paid very well, and probably always will 5 and not only do large landed proprietors keep good draught stallions and mares, but small farmers may be found in almost every direction with excellent stock of this description, and an income derived from them which places the owners far above the reach of' want, and in many cases within the reach of independence and luxury. Farmers too keep sheep, and add considerably to the quantity of wool pro~ duced in the Colony. They - breed sheep for the same reason as that for which they breed horses, to add something to the returns from agriculture; and their flocks range from 200 or 300 to or or even more.
