Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the complex motivations and actions of the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church. Detailing their origins in ancient pagan religions, the author presents intricate arguments on the history and symbolism of Catholic dogma. Focusing on the displacement of Mary Magdalene and her role in the early church with that of the Virgin Mary, and the encoding of pagan symbols into later Church iconography, the author argues that these were deliberate acts meant to ease the assimilation of pagans to Catholicism during the Middle Ages and the Roman Empire. The author also delves into the medieval evolution of the Catholic church's power structure, including the creation of the office of the pope and the codification of dogma through church councils. The author is thorough in illustrating the transformation of Christianity from its egalitarian origins into a complex and powerful heirarchy with the trappings and ideology of imperial Rome, and how elements of pre-Christian pagan beliefs were subsumed by the Catholic church to ease the transition. This book will appeal to those curious about the historical origins and evolution of Christianity and the Catholic Church.
