Was der Verfasser, bei dieser Anschauung von der Kraft seiner Beweise erhoffte, ist mehr eine Vertiefung der allgemeinen Kenntnis eines Gebietes der Philosophie, das neuerdings wieder häufiger genannt, lebhafter getadelt und zugleich mit größerer Be wunderung gelobt wird ohne daß die Diskussion doch bereits bis zu dem wissenschaftlichen Zentralpunkte dieses Gebietes vor gedrungen wäre. Es lassen sich so manche Nebel zerstreuen, manche Lichter anzünden, ohne daß man das schwere Werkzeug eines philosophischen Systems zur Hand nimmt. Es mag für die Gegenwart nicht unwichtig sein, zu hören, mit wie ganz an deren Resultaten als üblich man Kant betrachten kann oder inne zu werden, welche Schiefheiten in der Beurteilung des speku lativen Begriffes des Absoluten obwalten. Wie wenig man einen richtigen Begriff von Dialektik besitzt. Und hin und wieder bei spielsweise darauf gewiesen zu werden, von welch ungeheurer Fruchtbarkeit das Prinzip des absoluten Idealismus für die Durch dringung der Einzelheiten unsrer endlichen natürlichen und gei stigen Welt ist. So könnte sich ein Bewußtsein davon bilden, daß wir hier nicht am Grabe vergangener Herrlichkeiten, deren Glanz wir bewundern, deren Sturz wir als gerecht empfinden, sondern an der Pforte einer neuen Zukunft stehen.
