Over 2 lbs, with over 600 pages of text, tables, analysis, and graphs! Do you know who "Blackbeard the Pirate" was? Probably not! Born into a substantial family in Bristol, the eldest son of Capt. Edward and Elizabeth Thache sailed for Jamaica with his family sometime before 1695. Capt. Edward Thache of St. Jago de la Vega or "Spanish Town" died there at age 47 while his son, Edward "Blackbeard" Thache Jr. joined the Royal Navy and fought in Queen Anne's War aboard HMS Windsor. Thache resembled more a Robber Baron of the early 20th century than a poor downtrodden member of Benjamin Hornigold's "Flying Gang" in the Bahamas - or even his "pupil." Capt. Charles Johnson's "A General History of the Pyrates" is a flawed historical work and much of what we have previously known about Blackbeard is simply not true. This book attempts to rediscover exactly who Blackbeard really was... and how he related to his maritime American "Pirate Nation!" Quite a few surprises are in store! From the Author:

This book was the result of years of research following my discovery ofBlackbeard's family history - a discovery that began, of all places, onAncestry and especially Familysearch, online genealogical databases. Icompleted the journey with deeds and wills from Spanish Town, Jamaica, with the assistance of my friend, Dianne Golding-Frankson ofGenealogyPlus Jamaica. For 300 years, we have searched for thisinformation. Now, we finally know!

I am not the typical piratehistorian and this book will show you why. For perhaps the first time, I reject the use of an old polemical work of historical fictionmasquerading as actual history - Charles Johnson's (actually NathanielMist's) "A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the MostNotorious Pyrates." In my research, I found many inconsistencies andoutright lies associated with this book. The task has only just begun to retell pirate history from an unbiased perspective. Of course, I beganwith the most famous pirate of them all - Edward "Blackbeard" Thache!

Please come to my website at baylusbrooks.com and utilize my "Pirate Library"with biographies and a growing list of primary sources related toBlackbeard and piracy in general.
