"We Are Beautiful introduces 46 girls, ages 12 to 19, who share their deepest thoughts about what defines beauty.

Social creatures that they are, teenage girls will love this empowering message from their contemporaries and peers. These girls speak openly about anxieties and struggles, about sports and spirituality, about family and friends and, above all, self-acceptance and self-esteem.

For every parent of a teen daughter, this book is a must."

About the Author:

From School Library Journal:
Grade 8 Up–A collection of short essays, many of which address our society's narrow definition of beauty and how individual teens have overcome those limitations. Each inspiring entry urges readers to find their own inner beauty and celebrate that uniqueness rather than hiding it. Dana writes, My eyes are crooked but my heart is straight. Audrey begins to grasp that if she believes that she is beautiful, others will believe it, too. A cancer survivor talks about her decision not to get plastic surgery for her numerous treatment/battle scars. These 46 teens are strong and articulate; each one has a wonderful sense of self and contagious confidence. The collages and photographs make for a visually appealing text. An ABCs of feeling beautiful prompts readers to develop their own G-LYSTE (girl style turned inside out). This is a powerful read for teens struggling with image problems and a supportive text for those who already know their strengths.–Elaine Baran Black, Gwinnett County Public Library, Lawrenceville, GA
