New York's Finger Lakes is home to the country's fastest-growing wine region, and each year millions of tourists spill into the tasting rooms of its wineries. Filled with fun and likable characters, Summer in a Glass brings this burgeoning area to life and captures its exciting diversity--from its immigrant German winemakers to its young, technically trained connoisseurs, from classic Rieslings to up-and-coming Cabernet Francs.

New York State's Finger Lakes is the fastest-growing wine region in the country, garnering raves for its Riesling and Gewürztraminer from such prestigious publications as Wine Spectator and the New York Times, and now the rest of the wine world has started to take notice.
Here for the first time, news journalist and accomplished wine writer Evan Dawson takes you behind the scenes to meet the winemakers, winery owners, grape growers, and other regional personalities who have transformed the Finger Lakes region from its earliest days as an unheralded district to a place where an exciting new wine revolution is centered. Some of these individuals include Johannes Reinhardt, who left his family's winery in Germany in the middle of the night to begin his search for new life; Morten Hallgren, the brilliant astrophysicist-turned-winemaker who came to rebuild his dream after losing his family winery in France; Dave Whiting, who hosts one of several secret society groups in the region; and Peter and Joanna Bell, who recounted the near-death experiences and chance encounters that had set their course for a winemaking region the once knew nothing about.
Summer in a Glass is "not too technical, with just the right amount of explanation when needed, while always staying focused on the personas rather than just the numbers," writes James Molesworth in the book's foreword. It offers a "sneak peek into a history that is being written right now by a cast of characters driven to put the Finger Lakes on everyone's wine map."
EVAN DAWSON is the managing editor of the New York Cork Report, one of today's most popular and respected wine websites, where he also covers the Finger Lakes wine and food scene. Dawson is also a morning news anchor at WHAM-TV in Rochester, where he serves as a political corespondent on state and federal issues. Dawson first became interested in Finger Lakes wine on his first trip to the region with his wife-to-be, Morgan, whom me met as a student at Ohio University. They now live in Rochester, New York.
