9781403358622: Hiacin House

This novel depicts the inner workings of a safe house from its inception in the 1920's to its apex in the 1980's. The novel's main character-Peter Hiacin-is a solitary man, who reconstructed Hiacin House over the years to cater to a rapidly decaying economy. Some of the other characters in the book are CIA agents Ronin and Simon a.k.a. 'The White Shadow', and professional hit man, Danny Foster. The theme of the novel is to show the relevance of a safe house and the enormous scope of its operations. It also delineates the various types of safe houses and explains how and why Hiacin House is so different from the others. The supplemental themes include the following: The Central Intelligence Agency; corporate embezzlement, counter terrorism; The New York Mafia; professional assassination. It shows how people who engage in these various endeavors have a need for the service Hiacin House provides. A position is never taken as to whether the acts committed by Peter Hiacin's clients are good or evil. Instead, the book portrays the individual's attempt to survive and flourish in the midst of perpetual turmoil.
