Most migration is a matter of push and pull, but this book is all about push – things are so bad for you that you will go anywhere to get away, often in the clothes you stand up in, taking only what you can carry. What could be so bad that you flee, leaving everything else behind?

Dave Dalton is a Heinemann Raintree author. From Booklist:
Gr. 7-10. Part of the People on the Move series, this title focuses on civilians displaced by war and by ethnic cleansing. There are color photos, charts, and maps covering past history (including the Holocaust) as well as contemporary upheavals in Rwanda, Cambodia, El Salvador, and elsewhere. Unfortunately, Dalton attempts to cram too much into one small book. The type is small and close, and there is almost no documentation beyond a brief bibliography. What works best are the refugees' personal stories, which humanize the statistics, and the international connections across time and place that will spark class discussion. Economic Migrants is another new title in the series. Hazel Rochman
