9781405233224: How to Write Really Badly

When Chester Howard starts at his new school Miss Tate sits him next to Joe, the writer from hell. Chester refuses to believe that Joe has learning difficulties and persuades him to change his project from how to write neatly to how to write badly.

About the Author:

Anne Fine is one of the UK's best-loved authors. She was the Children's Laureate from 2001-2003 and has won both the Carnegie Medal and the Whitbread Award twice. She has published over 50 books for children, including favourites such as Bill's New Frock, Ivan the Terrible and The Angel of Nitshill Road. When she was young, it never occurred to Anne that she might be a writer. But one day, unable to get to the library in a snowstorm, she sat down and started to write a novel. Clearly this was the right job for her, for she has never stopped writing for more than a few weeks since.

From AudioFile:

Chester Howard's seatmate at his new school is Joe, a boy who has a tough time learning anything in school. Their unusual friendship typifies Anne Fine's stories and how they connect with their intended audience of young teens in subtle ways. Better known to her British audience, Fine is the author of MRS. DOUBTFIRE. Narrator Richard Mitchley swiftly engages young listeners with his command of the dialogue though American ears may need a little practice with the accents. His lively reading entertains but doesn't lose its message about working with a person's strengths. R.F.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
