August Wilhelm Otto Niemann (1839-1919) was a German author, officer, editor, actor and private tutor. He also wrote under the pseudonym A. Ferrari. He was an editor in the publishing house Justus Perthes from 1869 to 1889. In 1904 he wrote his novel Der Weltkrieg: Deutsche Träume that appeared in English as The Coming Conquest of England. This war utopia book was widely noticed, in its preface it shows the Britons as the head enemy: "My dreams, the dreams of a German, show me the war that is to be, and the victory of the three great allied nations. Germany, France, and Russia-and a new division of the possessions of the earth as the final aim and object of this gigantic universal war."

Charlotte Niese wurde am 07.06.1854 in Burg auf Fehmarn geboren; sie starb am 08.12.1935 in Altona. Ihr Vater war Pastor in Burg auf Fehmarn. Charlotte bestand die Prüfung zur Lehrerin an Höheren Töchterschulen und unterrichtete als Hauslehrerin in Schleswig-Holstein, in der Rheinprovinz sowie als Internatserzieherin in Montreux. Danach zog sie zu ihrer inzwischen verwitweten Mutter nach Plön und begann mit der Veröffentlichung eigener Prosatexte, anfangs noch unter dem männlichen Pseudonym Lucian Bürger. 1884 ließ sie sich in Altona nieder, 1888 zog sie nach Ottensen.
