Celtic civilization once flourished throughout much of western Europe. By A.D. 100, however, Ireland and England were the last remaining Celtic strongholds. The Celts were driven from the rest of Europe by the Greeks, Romans, and Germans. Called barbarians by other civilizations, the Celts actually had a well-organized social structure and religion and were highly skilled in a variety of crafts.
