The story of one man told through his own eyes. It tells of his uneasy childhood, raised by a drug addicted mother and an abusive and alcoholic father. It recounts his troubled youth, his own drug addiction and his life on the mean streets, it speaks of murder and prison. It also reveals the woman who loved him through it all, thereby saving his soul. A gripping and very moving, fast paced novel that will defy you to put it down.

Do you know how Steevie wonder got his name? It came from some critic or news guy who said that being blind and a musician made him a wonder boy. But for me it was more than that, he was born into a bad era. Bad because he was not only blind, he was poor and he is black. It's a wonder he even got out of bed.

I was born a junkie. You might say it's a cop out, that it's pc bullshit to say one is born a heroin addict. Like just because your father was a wife beating alcoholic piece of shit it doesn't mean that you have to be one and perpetuate the hate cycle, my dad was. You might, you, Christian, tell me that Jesus can set us free from generational curses. At one time I would have told you to stick it up your self-righteous ass, at one time. Though truly I was born a heroin addict. You see my mother gave it to me while I was still inside her.

My father was white, my mother a half-cast aboriginal. So I was born light enough to pass for a European, and be able to listen the white Ozzie slag me off thinking I was one of them. Sometimes I'd sit in bars for hours listening to some ghubba telling me how abbo's are all useless pieces of shit bludging off the Government and drinking piss all day. Then I'd take them outside and beat three kinds of red out of them and never tell them why. So they'd think twice about slagging us brothers off, even to their own.

Mum said I cried a lot as a baby. Maybe cause I had the craving and needed a fix, there was no enlightenment or treatment of such things back then. Or the fact that she almost never fed me. One day the neighbors couldn't stand the noise so they called the police. When I got to the hospital they said I was next to starved and brain damaged and my arse was just a puss ridden sore. They had to circumcise me because it was infected. Child protection never stepped in because we were darkies and white trash and they didn't care.

My name is Sean Banks. Banksie.
