Life in early La Florida may not have been as history has been written. Native Americans from this region are said to have lived for centuries due to the inexplicable power of a mysterious source of water. Early explorers went in search of this "Fountain of Youth" only to come back disappointed. It was hidden from their view by a aged tribe devoted to its protection. Young Lt. Stephen Hathorne, shipwrecked in Spanish La Florida in 1808 will discover the secrets of this tribe if he can survive the trip. Indeed, he discovers that he and his own family are responsible for their very existence! Traveling through threads of time's sensitive fabric, Stephen and his new-found love will have to face many dangers: pirates, zealots, slavers, and a madman from the future before they can find peace in the past. In this story, four time periods of the beautiful and exotic Floridian town of St. Augustine are explored. Although a sci-fi romance, lovers of history will be thrilled at the meticulous detail.

From the Author:

The adventure of Heirloom is the epic story of a special family through time and their search for a peaceful existence. This is the story that I wanted to read but could never find! It has Native Americans, the Fountain of Youth, International Intrigue, Science Fiction and Romance. It's also a story of love and how that love can span the boundaries of time itself. But, it's greatest treasure is the historical accuracy of the North Florida region before the Americans took over. Much of history is included about the early Native Americans as well as the beginnings of our nation at Yorktown and the infamous trials of Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 when numerous innocents were hanged as witches!

About the Author:

Talent can be described in many forms and may have many apparitions reflected in the life of one who possesses it. And that person may not always appreciate it in him or herself, nor may they even recognize it. Baylus Cade Brooks Jr. was born in 1961 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. As the eldest son of a wealthy local businessman, his early education was the best offered. He was good with academic ideas, but his imagination afforded him the chance to explore beyond the boundaries of those ideas. Although his teachers recognized his inherent academic abilities and tried to dissuade him from ignoring them, he flew to other worlds of fancy, other dreams that he wanted to pursue. Often, it was to the great discontent of his parents as well, owing to "C" average report cards.

After high school and after finding some focus, Brooks found that his teacher’s and his parent’s expectations were not unfounded. As a student in Lake City Community College in Lake City, Florida he flourished academically, graduating Summa Cum Laude and going on to the University of Florida in Gainesville to further his studies. It was here, in this semi-tropical land that he found his greatest niche in life and it turned out not to be academic. Rather, it was the other side of his brain. Creativity. It was like a drug. A burning desire to draw, paint and write began to burst into life inside this wildly imaginative and emotionally expressive young man. At first, his art was methodic and sterile, like the mathematics that he studied. Soon, colors blended into surrealistic ideas and his art became alive. Upon reflection on his earlier experiences with sanitary mathematics, he began to see the wisdom behind the theory and it too became alive! Suddenly, B.C. Brooks was alive!

Writing became his grandest expression, for his newfound ideals as well as for the art of telling a story. And he could tell a story. Life was real and unreal at the same time, imagination stirring and spurring on the swirling perplexities of what was to come. The body was only a vessel. Housed within the blood and bone were thoughts, the stuff of life itself! They became words. If you think this story is adventurous, then you can see him. If you think this adventure is complex, then you can sense him. And if you think this complex adventure is a tale of love, power and fantasy, then you know him. And to those who see them for what they are, he thanks you for reading his thoughts. Florida is still his home.
