About the Author:

Nathan Boyd is a Bachelor of Science graduate from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX and an avid fitness enthusiast that has had prior experience working as a certified Personal Fitness Trainer as the former Director of Pro Fitness of Texas. During that time, Nathan was professionally certified through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) as well as a member of the IDEA Health & Fitness Association which is the world's #1 membership organization for health and fitness professionals. Nathan was also a past member of the Texas Student Dietetic Association while in college.

Nathan considers himself to have had a blessed and fortunate life and has been a life-long believer in maintaining a physically active lifestyle, which is also one of the major principles of this book! He has also taken the opportunity to having participated in numerous fitness endeavors over the years. These include challenges as diverse as having once competed as an amateur middleweight bodybuilder to having even hiked solo around Lake Chiemsee, the largest inland lake in Germany. Nathan currently resides in Texas with his wife, son, and two dalmatians and wholeheartedly encourages everyone in their pursuit of attaining a fitness lifestyle as well. Chapter 10

DANCE BREAK ANYONE?

Granted, on the surface, it may seem odd, but I enjoy taking a break from my work sometimes to simply .... dance. Not a particularly pretty dance I'll admit, but a dance nonetheless. I'll swing from side to side, do highkick after high-kick, and twist and shout. I'll dance by myself sometimes and sometimes I'll dance with my wife. Sometimes, I'll even dance with one of my dalmatians. So as to not scare anyone, I'll normally dance in private, away from the public's view. But, at least once daily, I'll dance.

Why? Because I believe strongly in keeping an active lifestyle. I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to do the same as well. They don't have to dance if that's not their cup of tea, but they can still take an early morning walk or an after dinner stroll around sunset. They're encouraged to walk to the corner store for their morning newspaper rather than drive. Put aside the TV remote control and get off the sofa to change stations. Go bowling or play miniature golf instead of always going to the movie theater. Tend to their yards and housework themselves. Play fetch with their dog. They could even wash their own car instead of driving through the nearest carwash. Bottom line, they're encouraged to start moving more again.

Understand though, that there is a method to this madness. A person that remains continuously active while at their normal activities can literally burn hundreds of extra calories per d ay . This state of being "active" isn't referring to exercise or sports either. Rather, it encompasses activities from simply maintaining an upright posture to brushing your teeth an extra time each day to vacuuming your floors regularly. Remember, all movements require energy, even small movements. Over the course of a 24-hour period, these additional small movements can add up to a considerable bit of additional calories. When that spent amount of energy is combined with the energy consumed by your regular metabolism as well as the energy from your regular exercise sessions, then the sum total will help to ensure proper weight maintenance for you.

Ease into becoming a more active individual though and Implement these small activities one at a time; especially if you've been leading a sedentary lifestyle. As with regular exercise, you'll become fatigued rather quickly if you're not accustomed to the additional movements. But all movements will indeed burn extra calories for you and before you realize it, you'll be subconsciously creating a caloric furnace that will consume several hundred extra calories per day as well.
