Ronald T. Kellogg is Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Saint Louis University. His education includes degrees from the University of Iowa (BS, psychology) and the University of Colorado (MA and PhD, experimental psychology) and postdoctoral study at Stanford University. His past research has examined attention, long-term memory, concept learning, and cognitive processes in writing. His current work focuses on working memory in written composition and hemispheric differences in the semantic processing of language production. He has authored numerous technical journal articles and book chapters plus several books, including The Psychology of Writing (1994), Cognitive Psychology, 2nd Ed. (2003), and The Making of the Mind: The Neuroscience of Human Nature (2013).Review:
“Very likely to adopt. The book is very well written, well organized from a student perspective, and conducive to the type of classroom I teach.” (Eric C. Odgaard)
“Very likely. I see the strengths as the length, price, and writing level of the book. As a concise text, it can be covered in a semester. It covers the main material you would want in a course on cognition. It presents the material in an easy to read fashion. The main concepts are discussed and highlighted in boxes in the margins.” (Sandra Sego)
“Very likely - I chose the Kellogg text primarily because it seemed to be written at a level that would be suitable to my students. Each chapter is 30 pages and covers the basics of the area. That quantity of reading at that level is manageable for students to read approximately a chapter a week. If students mastered the material in the text, I could feel relatively secure knowing that they knew “what they had to know.” This was the text’s strength: providing the basics in a straightforward way. The graphs, tables and figures were simple and presented clearly. There were not extraneous graphics, dialog boxes, etc., that I sometimes find distracting.” (Eric C. Satlow)
"Ronald T. Kellogg′s Fundamentals of Cognitive Psychology is a very informative and user-friendly introductory textbook for students and general readers alike. This is a book that I would recommend to general readers and undergraduate students alike." (Robert J. Belton)
