He is the author of several materials for the teaching and learning of Spanish, among them Siempre adelante (textbook and CD-ROM reading assistant for Intermediate Spanish), and Mundos Hispanos (CD-ROM program for High School Spanish). His research work has been centered in the areas of culture, technology and student assessment.Review:
"Temas is an exciting way to teach language because it shows students the real life applications for what they are learning in the foreign language classroom. Temas integrates language and culture while teaching the four-skills, but more importantly, it prepares students for immediate interaction with the growing Hispanic population in the United States."
"I really like the Servicio comunitario section. It is extremely appropriate for what is happening on college/university campuses today. Community Service is a huge factor at my University (it is integrated from the First Year to the Final Year) and would help my program's Spanish courses to be more integrative and interdisciplinary."
"I like the extensive vocabulary phrase lists with accompanying translation in italics. The Preguntas y respuestas are a good re-enforcement exercise. They are a great help in the syntactical switches English speakers have. I have not seen this creativity in many books."
"One of the greatest features of this book is that it presents grammar within a context. This context is a dialog from the real world. Most of the time, students consider that we present grammar that is not used in the real world. However, this doesn't happen in this case."
"The chapter structure flows easily from one activity to the next. I really like the fact that all the activities are related to the topic to be studied! Usually the activity changes and becomes completely irrelevant to the topic just so that the grammar can be practiced. In Temas 2e you learn about the topic AND grammar with activities which are ALL relevant and related...this is GREAT!"
