Suzanne Weyn has written more than 100 novels for children and young adults and has had her work featured on the New York Times bestseller list. Her books in the Once upon a Time series include The Crimson Thread and The Night Dance among others. She is also the author of the romantic comedy, South Beach Sizzle. Suzanne lives in Putnam Valley, NY.

Diana Gonzalez loves animals and has worked as a veterinary assistant for the last four years while also attending school. She also teaches horseback riding and has a horse named Albert who she rides regularly. Diana especially enjoys studying art, creative writing, and web design.

Grade 9 Up–Through a series of highly contrived events, Lula and Jeff end up getting an apartment the summer after high school graduation and working in the restaurant below. The owner is a saucy Latina with a flair for Celia Cruz and Cuban cuisine. The other apartment dwellers are a collection of stock "wacky" types, e.g., an old coot, a flashy black girl, erudite gays, etc. The story follows Lula as she finds love and becomes the songwriter for a band. There are some romantic scenes and a red herring involving studly Enrique, who might be too good to be true. The writing is fairly pedestrian and the story offers no real surprises. The authors try hard to be contemporary and clever, but the pacing, characters, and rudderless plot make the book a bit of a slog. Young teens who are looking for a glimpse into life in a cosmopolitan city will pick the book up, but it certainly lacks sizzle.–Amy Patrick, New York Public Library
