About the Author

Carol Schaefer's first book, TheOther Mother: A Woman's Love for the Child She Gave Up for Adoption (Soho Press, 1991) isconsidered a classic in adoption literature. The Other Mother was listedin 500 Great Books byWomen, a Penguin Readers' Guide that goes back to the eleventh century, andwas adapted for television by NBC in 1995.The movie, starring Frances Fisher, is now one of the most popularmovies on Lifetime Television for Women.Schaefer's play, The SacredVirgin, was produced in New York Cityin 2002.
