After learning of the symbolism used by the sacred clowns of the Lakota Indians, Forrest related to noe of their symbolic roles, "being contrary". In this role, they do everything contrary to the norm - ride backwards, dance backwards, etc. By their living, they challenge their people not to get stuck in rigid ways of thinking and living. Forrest believes that "being contrary" is a symbol of the role that gays, like himself, play in our society. For him it is also a symbol of fellow alcoholics gathering together at our 12 step meetings to celebrate our recovery and to affirm each other with love and hope. Come and listen to Forrest as he shares his experience, strength and hope.
