"Max the Shelter Dog" is dear to my heart because it was inspired by a pit bull named Max I met on my first day of volunteering at my local animal shelter.
I wrote Max quite quickly because it came from my heart and from my desire to spread the word about this wonderful breed that is so misunderstood, as well as the plight of all shelter dogs in need of a home.

Nicole Rivera is a children's book author. She is the guardian of a beautiful corn snake named Dumpling and has an affinity for all animals, especially pit bulls.
