The ethnic neighborhoods that formed America's cultural foundation were in transition during the early 1950s. The colorful vestiges of Old World tradition, language, and mores still clung to daily life even as it began its transformation into today's America. This little book collects a few of those uniquely transitional moments, recounting episodes of a young boy growing up American as an East End Italian.

Born in 1945, Bill Mori was raised in a modest Italian neighborhood of a small town in northwest Iowa. The mix of Italian, traditional Catholic, and post-World War II influences served up ten formative years very unlike those of today. The 1950s rush of ethnic, religious, and technological change was in process everywhere. Yet, for a young boy growing up in a completely functional Italian family, life was safe, fun, and filled with homey adventures and an assortment of odd but endearing characters. After graduation from the University of St. Thomas, Bill served two years in the military during the Vietnam War. Thereafter he pursued a career in information technology working for several large Minnesota corporations. Today Bill is co-owner of a computer software company. He lives in Minneapolis with Kay his wife of thirty-eight years. Bill’s hope is that this little book of true stories will be as enjoyable to read as it was to live.
