Patricia A. Brenner, PhD, a native of Colorado, possesses an extensive background in teaching, writing, and art. She taught at the high school level for 12 years, in New York, Massachusetts, and Ohio. She earned a master of arts degree from Bread Loaf School of English, in Middlebury, Vermont, where she studied with several internationally recognized writers and scholars. She was a Master Teacher at Harvard University, in their Master of Arts in Teaching graduate program. In 1966, Dr. Brenner was awarded a teaching fellowship toward her PhD at Kent State University, where she studied British, American, and world literature. After receiving her degree in 1970, she began teaching American literature at California Polytechnic State University, and served as the head of the graduate program from 1977-1981. Dr. Brenner retired as a full professor in 1992. She has traveled throughout the Americas and Europe, studying native art and cultures. Her most recent travels have taken her to Israel, Turkey, and Egypt. She currently lives in Rancho Mirage, California, where she enjoys writing and the camaraderie of good friends. Fred F. Wise, MD, grew up in Texas, where he worked as a Nature Counselor at a camp. His early interest and studies in the fields of philosophy and theology, were largely inspired by the Jesuit instructors during his high school and college education. In 1968, he earned a bachelors degree in the natural sciences and philosophy from Xavier University, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Subsequently, he entered the US Army, in which he served as a Captain in the Medical Service Corp, and did a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He later returned to medical school, where he specialized in Emergency Medicine at USC's LA County Hospital, in Los Angeles, and then became Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. He currently lives with his loving wife Diana and their two children, Hayley and Beau, on a ranch in Santa Barbara County, California. His life-long passion for backpacking has taken him to over a hundred countries, where he appreciates the wisdom found in the diversity of cultures. Fred continues to enjoy his writing, his medical practice, and his travels.
