A distributed load is applied to all or part of the member, and the amount of load per unit of length is generally constant. The weight of superstructures, bridge decks, wearing surfaces, and bridge parapets produce distributed loads. Culvert characteristics A culvert is a structure designed hydraulically to take advantage of submergence to increase water carrying capacity.
