This overview volume in the 11-title Caribbean Today series provides quick but topical introductions to the area’s countries, history, major cities, and people, then closes with selected festivals, recipes, and print and online information resources. The craft ideas are a bit thin, but the appended chronology is helpful. Ten small maps of the countries featured in the other volumes compensate at least in part for the lack of an overall map, and a page of flags plus several tables of facts supply basics for assignment use. Three to five color photos per chapter afford at least glimpses of faces, beaches, and skylines. The information here is readily available elsewhere, but in less portable form; smaller collections may find this useful as a supplement to encyclopedias and single-country titles. Grades 4-6. --John Peters
