Eddie Carter is an alcoholic newspaper reporter who has fallen from grace into the desperate cycle of his addictions. On his way down, he stumbles upon the story of a lifetime while investigating corporate corruption. His story is in pieces when he meets Alina Feigner Lajoie, a young Romanian genius who works for one of the “big six” corporations. Eddie finds a vendetta between Corporate, the government, and the rebel governor of Nebraska, John “Morning Sun” Gall, a Lakota Sioux Indian. Gall has risen to power from the Sand Hills of Nebraska and revived the Nebraska economy, while the rest of the American economy goes downhill. Eddie’s secret spawns jealousy and hatred from the government that both fears Gall’s working-man ethic, and wants him killed because of the charismatic adoration his people have for him. Eddie is sent to Nebraska to weed out the pieces of the story, but he finds out that he is much more than just a newspaper reporter.
