This how-to guide provides teachers with all of the information they need to help their students write from sources. It allows students to analyze informational texts, argument/opinion texts, narrative texts, diverse media sources, and multiple sources to help students improve their own writing and allows them to gain a deeper understanding of the sources through close reading and critical analysis. Each section contains five lessons that are specific to the grade spans K–1, 2–3, 4–5, 6–8, and 9–12.

About Shell Education
Rachelle Cracchiolo started the company with a friend and fellow teacher. Both were eager to share their ideas and passion for education with other classroom leaders. What began as a hobby, selling lesson plans to local stores, became a part-time job after a full day of teaching, and eventually blossomed into Teacher Created Materials. The story continued in 2004 with the launch of Shell Education and the introduction of professional resources and classroom application books designed to support Teacher Created Materials curriculum resources. Today, Teacher Created Materials and Shell Education are two of the most recognized names in educational publishing around the world.

About the Author:

Jessica Hathaway, M.S.Ed., earned her B.A. in Psychology from Pomona College and her M.S. in Education from Northwestern University, with a concentration in literacy. She has conducted classroom-based research on the integration of different learning modalities into literacy instruction and spent several years working in the Los Angeles Unified School District teaching early elementary, instructing art enrichment classes, and mentoring novice teachers. Currently, Jessica enjoys writing and publishing educational texts and spending time with her husband and two young daughters.
