9781425929039: The Adventures of Joey Zee

The basic theme of this short fictional story evolves around our main character, whose name is Joey Zee. Joey comes from an urban middle class family which includes his Mother, Grandmother and her old red, ever squawking parakeet named 'Blue'. He is just like any other normal six year old kid who's looking forward to his first day at Newell Elementary School. However, Joey soon becomes troubled about the perceived way in which he is being treated there. With this in mind, he decides to quit school. As you can imagine, Joey's decision causes quite a stir at home when his Mother is contacted by his first grade teacher, Ms. Noble, who has grown concerned about the pupils' unexplained absence. In the end, however; with the love and understanding of both his family and teacher; our little Joey comes to learn a few valuable lessons about himself...and life. ...Lessons, which I believe, we all could profit from.

About the Author:

While growing up poor in rural North Carolina during the early 50's, a time when many of the small children in the community had little more for entertainment than to go to a neighbors' house and watch T.V., run through the woods playing Cowboys and Indians or listening to the radio. The author would spend countless hours alone, playing imaginary games with used match sticks. Then, one year for a Christmas present, he received a bag of plastic soldiers. It was like a dream come true. Because now, he wouldn't have so much trouble separating the good guys from the bad ones. While reflecting back on those times, it would appear that making up stories with imaginary characters has long since been a source of enjoyment for me. And although I've been writing for well over forty years now, I can not be truthful in saying that it has all been about enjoyment. However, I can say it has been a means of salvation and a deep compulsion to share my thoughts with others. When it comes to writing, it has often been said that the author rarely picks the subject of which he/she writes. But it is the subject which chooses the author. And if that be the case, I certainly would like to thank 'Joey Zee' for giving me this opportunity to bring his own story to print. As my first published book, 'Joey Zee' has taken ten years to materialize. For it would seem like every time I thought I'd finished, something else would come to mind about the story not being told quite right. And even now, I'll sit back and wonder whether or not I could have done something more to enhance the telling of Joeys' experiences. I don't know. But then, I suppose I'll just have to make myself satisfied with being chosen to tell the tale and let you, the reader, be the judge of everything else.
