She was the first woman to speak before the Virginia General Assembly on giving the right to vote for women. She was unique in that almost everything she wrote was published on both sides of the Atlantic. Canadian and London publishers extended her works around the globe. Her other novels include two Civil War stories: The Long Roll (1911) and Cease Firing (1912), The Great Valley (1926), and Miss Delicia Allen (1932).
