The Lusitania is now remembered most for her tragic demise in 1915, and not for her technical firsts, her great splendor, and her incredible seven-and-a-half-year career. This volume is a unique and unprecedented look at one of the most famous Atlantic liners of the 20th Century - it is primarily a celebration of her life.
The book is packed with technical details, rare or never-before-published images (some three-hundred, all told) and technical drawings. There are many previously untold stories about the seven years she was in service before the war. There are also rare or previously unpublished accounts from those who were on the ship during her final crossings, and from those who survived the sinking. Appendices in the end matter also highlight some fascinating and never-before published information on the ship.About the Author:
J. Kent Layton has studied the history of the Atlantic liners for two decades. He is an active member of the Titanic Research & Modeling Association, and lives in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York. He divides his time between his writing and his work as a piano tuner. His first book, Atlantic Liners: A Trio of Trios, was released in 2005.
