9781432733629: Snow Snakes

OUR LOVED ONES DON’T REALLY LEAVE US.
NOT FOR THOSE WHO TRULY REMEMBER...

It’s been nearly one year since John Mathews lost his battle with cancer, leaving behind a family that has done their best to carry on without him. As Christmastime approaches — and the anniversary of John’s death draws near — son Tom confronts startling visions of the past, back when his dad was around. They’re getting stronger with each December snow. And he’s not the only one affected by the visions: Tom’s mother and others in this rural northern Wisconsin community also feel John’s presence. Now, leaving home for the first time, Tom embarks on a four-day trip that will touch the lives of those he meets along the way and generate an internal strength through a connection to someone who is no longer physically present.

Snow Snakes is at once a portrait of a family and community struggling to come to terms with loss, and a treatise on the healing power of memory. What emerges is a lesson for us all — that just because a person is no longer with us on Earth does not mean that person is gone... There will always be “snow snakes” for those who look for them and accept that memories live forever.

Follow the entire Mathews family’s journey of loss, self-discovery and hope in this feelingly told story with a universal register. Remarkable for its extraordinary breadth of emotion, Snow Snakes is the kind of novel that stays with you long after the last page is turned.

From the Author:

The loss of a person you once shared time with on earth can be difficult, but life continues. There are resons to cry, but there are also many reasons to smile, because no one is ever forgotten. In "Snow Snakes" I tried to capture the sadness caused from such a loss and blend it with daily life decisions that have to be made so people can move on and be happy. If you ever suffered such a loss I hope you can identify with the story.
