Coal Harbor is an adventurous story full of action, romance, drama and cold hearted murder. Tourists and islanders leave the island during the harsh winter months with only two forest rangers remaining behind to operate the ranger station. The two rangers that had stayed on the island the previous winter had fallen in love during the long lonely winter season and volunteered together to do one more winter of tending the island. After the next winter season comes to an end they plan on getting married and moving to the mainland.
Coal harbor is a small island located off the lower western corner of Alaska. It is a small fisherman's paradise and also serves as a resort during the warmer months of the year. The island can remain under frozen snow and ice for up to six months at a time or longer during the winter season. With winter fast approaching and with ice and snow storms quickly moving in, it appears to the forest rangers to be just another winter season coming on. That is until a Lear Jet crashes into a snowbank. Kevin Turner and Betty Hopkins, the caretakers on the island, launch a rescue attempt during a white out blizzard to try and save the lives of any survivors. When it is learned that the aircraft's cargo may contain large shipments of cocaine and that the survivors could actually be wanted drug smugglers, life on the island suddenly becomes very dangerous.
