About the Author:

Wayne L. Wilson has a master's degree in education from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a professional writer who has written screenplays, short stories, a novel, and many biographies designed for young adult readers.

From School Library Journal:

Grade 3–4—When her beloved 12-year-old collie dies, Aleta's two best friends and her parents do their best to help her come to terms with her loss. The story does a good job of showing how the child navigates the various stages of grief, including denial, anger, depression, and, finally, acceptance. She eventually finds relief from her strong emotions in her own time and with help from an older family friend, Uncle Jimmy. Good suggestions on how to cope are offered: talk about your feelings, understand that people grieve in different ways, and create a scrapbook that will be a happy reminder of the deceased. Unremarkable illustrations follow the story line but don't add much interest, and the characters' faces are different from picture to picture. The book's title is misleading, and the unappealing cover illustration makes Aleta look evil and may turn readers away.—Maryann H. Owen, Racine Public Library, WI
