Don’t let the huge sweaty guys hog too much of your pro-wrestling shelf. Beth Phoenix (born Elizabeth Kocanski) is a big star in the WWE, and this interesting, if cursory, bio provides just enough info to impress readers who have come to the Superstars of Wrestling series to learn about John Cena or the Big Show. Nagelhout provides Phoenix’s bona fides: she was her high school’s first female varsity wrestler and won titles as an amateur. She went pro in 2000 and had her WWE debut in 2006. It didn’t take long for her talent and popularity to pay off: in 2007, she won the women’s title. With just one or two sentences per spread, there’s not a whole lot said, and much of it is repeated in the helpful time line that closes the book. However, the pictures are great, though they lean more toward posing in dresses and tiaras (looking a bit like Wonder Woman) than they do action shots in the ring. There’s no doubt about one fact: “She’s tough!” Grades 3-5. --Daniel Kraus
