Synopsis

Levi Yoder permits Amish turned Englisher, Margaret Goodman, to visit his son, Luke, a week at Christmas each year. Stubborn, unbending Levi threatens to stop her visits if she gives Luke a journal on Christmas day. Levi doesn't want his son to know he told the boy lies that only Margaret and Levi's father, Jeremiah, knows. Fearing Margaret will reveal the truth and turn Luke against his father, Levi makes her visit miserable, hoping she will leave before Christmas. If that happens, Margaret realizes that her hope, that some day Levi will treat her like he did years ago when they were in love, will be dashed.

From the Author:

This was the first Amish book I wrote.  My inspiration came from a Christmas Card scene.  As I studied that picture, the woman in the sleigh became Margaret Goodman and English woman that had been Amish.  The story went from there with her involvement with the Yoder family - Levi and his son Luke.  I've received many great reader reviews and suggestions that I should write another book so the readers will know what happened after this book to Margaret and Levi. Readers like the fact that I draw them into a working farm and rural scenes.  The writing isn't hard for me since I grew up in such a setting on a farm.
The next book about the Yoders hasn't happened yet but I did jump ahead to my second Nurse Hal book The Rainbow's End and put the Yoder family as neighbors and friends with the Lapp family.  Now the Yoders are apart of the Nurse Hal stories.

About the Author:

Fay Risner lives with her husband, Harold, on a central Iowa acreage along with their sheep, milk goats, chickens, rabbits, cats and a dog. They have one son, Duane. She divides her time between writing, working at the Keystone Nursing Care Center, enjoying country life, gardening and fishing. She has sold five stories to Good Old Days magazine and entered numerous short story and essay contests, placing twenty nine times.
