Baltimore Yearly Meeting of The Religious Society of Friends has roots and branches that are a hundred years older than the United States of America. Once its Monthly and Quarterly Meetings ranged along both sides of the Chesapeake Bay, and its members were among the hardy settlers who pushed westward beyond the Allegheny Mountains after the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). Thus its jurisdiction extended into Ohio and beyond-even to Prairie Grove Quarterly Meeting in Iowa, about 850 miles away. Some Meetings in Pennsylvania and northern Virginia joined in 1790. Virginia Yearly Meeting became a part in 1844.
