Richard Ransom is a young man with ambition - until Hitler gets in the way. . . Determined to free himself from the drudgery of life in the coalmines of 1930s England, Richard seeks to become something in life and to win the hand of the woman he loves. As his dreams are about to become reality, Europe is plunged into a nightmare war that lasts longer than anyone could have imagined. 'The Shackles of Freedom' is the story of a man's struggle for freedom: freedom from the traditions of his community and family environment, freedom from enslavement by Nazi Germany, and freedom from cupid's capriciousness - until ultimately he grasps that freedom is a state of mind.

About the Author:

A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Freda Clark (pen name F Clark McKendrick) pursued a successful career in the IT industry in a range of technical, managerial and sales roles, during which time she took up writing on a part-time basis. She had several non-fiction articles published in a variety of national and international magazines, covering themes such as travel, technical and human interest. Freda's fiction credits included the short story Paris in the Spring, the winning competition entry chosen by national magazine Writers' News, and published in December 1999. She has also co-written two situation comedies for television, one of which reached the short list in the 2002 BBC Talent Competition and was subsequently selected by TAPS for a showcase production in September 2003. Having established a full-time career as a writer, Freda completed her first novel, The Shackles of Freedom, in 2005. It is a story of love, friendship and divided loyalties set against the harsh landscape of war-torn Poland during World War 2. The novel and author were featured on BBC Radio West Midlands during April and May 2003. Sadly, late in 2005, at the all too young age of 49, Freda lost her own three year war with breast cancer. Her husband Rob has now published the novel (unaltered in any way) under Freda's favoured pen name - F Clark McKendrick. Articles Freda Clark's articles have appeared in publications with national and international coverage including: q Reader's Digestq RCI The Holiday Magazineq The Ladyq Computing Short Story Freda's work has appeared in the following national magazine: q Writers' News
