About the Author

Craig Nash Carter grew up in Whiting, Indiana. After seven years of military service, he completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Texas A&M University in 1981. After a short stint in general practice, he earned a MS in epidemiology, and a PhD in veterinary public health, also at Texas A&M. He is currently the Director and Professor of Epidemiology at the Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center in the College of Agriculture, University of Kentucky. He is an active scientific presenter and writer with over 100 scientific titles in print. As a Colonel in the US Army reserve, he recently served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a Texas A&M University Regent Scholar, was named Texas Specialty Veterinarian of the Year, and received the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. He continues to work and consult in countries on several continents to help improve animal and public health. Craig and his wife Ronda live with Oma, a retired seeing-eye dog on a small farm near Lexington, Kentucky.
