My friend, Butch Martin, is a cowboy poet, and also a talented singer of cowboy songs. He has helped to keep the cowboy poetry tradition alive by reciting many of the classic cowboy poems, such as Henry Hurbert Knibbs' Where The Ponies Come To Drink and The Shallows of the Ford. One of my all time favorite poems is Butch's Pipers, which speaks of a promise given and the ghostly keeping of that promise. Obviously, it's with these aspects of Butch's western writings that I am most familiar. However, with the book you now hold in your hand, Butch plunges into yet another field of endeavor. SPOOK, The Adventures of a Wyoming Ranch Cat is his first time out with a storybook for children. You'll enjoy it with the youngsters you know. Try it!! You'll like it yourself. Montana Poet: Mike Logan

I have shared most of my lifetime with various cats. Trough close observation of their daily lives I found that all have their own personalities, likes, dislikes and even a few hang-ups. These observations, along with a bit of imagination, were a great help when I wrote SPOOK (the adventures of a Wyoming ranch cat).Being raised on a farm in south-central Illinois I concluded farming was not how I wanteed to spend my life. There were things I wanted to do that did not include chopping weeds and praying for rain interspersed with hoping to God it wouldn't rain. After spending time and achieving some success in the corporate world I grew tired of the glitz, glamor and politics involved. Turning my back on it all I returned to country life. First to Wyomong, where I owned a horse ranch for several years. Raising Morgan cow horses as well, as working a day job, seemed to make the creative jucies flow. Starting out writing and performing cowboy poetry led to peening "SPOOK". Fate and circumstance brought me to beautiful southwest Oregon where I now make my home. Mules are now my ride of choice. In a way you could say I've come full circle as I first learned to ride on a mule. I am enjoying living 'couintry'!!
