Review:

In the era of the internet and the jet plane, individuals and groups of every variety, not just political leaders, military officers, and diplomats, affect relations among states. This volume contributes to a greatly expanded notion of international relations, stressing the importance of communication, collaboration or conflict, and understanding or intolerance, among peoples. - Inis L. Claude, Jr., Stettinius Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs, Emeritus, the University of Virginia.

Comprehensive, Informative, Compelling! This book is a must for anyone engaging in interdisciplinary research, conducting diversity training, or teaching courses in cross-cultural awareness and understanding. —Valarie Greene King, Ph.D., Director, Office of Diversity Initiatives, University of Central Florida, USA

This book should be required reading for scholars and practitioners alike - for anyone who works to encourage more constructive U.S. engagement with the rest of the world. NCIV will enthusiastically recommend it to its nationwide network of citizen diplomats who are actively engaged in international exchange programs. —Sherry Lee Mueller, Ph.d. President, National Council for International Visitors

This book offers a fresh, timely, and thoughtful treatment of intercultural communication in international relations. Its vivid discussion of the practical aspects of soft power shows how ordinary people's 'mindfulness,' 'citizen diplomacy activities,' and a 'sense of global citizenship' actually influence contemporary international politics. —Dr. Alexander Vuving, Associate Professor, Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, College of Security Studies, of the US Department of Defense, Honolulu, USA
"Sadri and Flammia have authored an excellent text on the topic of intercultural communication. It is a work that effectively addresses both theoretical and applied approaches to the subject and spans a range of disciplinary practices associated with examining intercultural communication. The comprehensive coverage of intercultural communication, in combination with the highly readable style of the text, make it an excellent primer for anyone interested in the topic area, be that person an academic researcher, an industry practitioner, or a university or college educator." Kirt St. Amant, Associate Professor of Technical and Professional Communication and Associate Professor of International Studies East Carolina University.
