Synopsis
Stripes is the biggest, strongest, fiercest hunter in the jungle . . . well, actually that's what Stripes would like to be. Stripes is a small tabby cat. Young and rambunctious, he challenges his owner at every turn -- seriously testing his owner's patience. He tears up the couch, he chases the dog, and he wreaks havoc everywhere. Finally, his owner has had enough! He takes Stripes to the zoo to see a real tiger. But both Stripes and his owner are in for a surprise, proving that things are not always as they seem, and most importantly, you should always follow your internal roar (or purr) . . . however loud or soft it may be.

About the Author
Jean Leroy is a former school teacher. Since 2010, he has been a full-time writer. He lives in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, France. Illustrator Berengere Delaporte works on children's books and magazines. She lives in Besancon, France.

PreS-K—Little striped tabby cat Stripes wishes he were a tiger. So he behaves like a big cat, clawing the furniture, scaring his owner, and roaring instead of purring. He becomes such a nuisance that his owner decides to take Stripes to the zoo to see a real tiger. Stripes meets his idol and thinks what a wonderful life the tiger leads, eating raw meat and frightening children who come to the zoo. Tiger assures Stripes that he has a pretty nice life as a domestic cat. They decide to trade places, and they each live happily ever after in their new homes. Pastel and mixed-media illustrations make the yellow felines the star of each page. Children and grown-ups will both giggle as they read the humorous text, which works perfectly with the illustrations to tell the tale. The role switch at the end offers a playful and satisfying ending. VERDICT A title sure to delight; for one-on-one and small group sharing.—Mindy Hiatt, Salt Lake County Library Services
