9781441485984: 2034: The Corporation - Post 2012

The failure of the U.S. Government; enabled by the financial crisis, media, national debt, reckless Federal spending and haughty politicians. In only a few short years, the masses begin desperately seeking stability and willfully vote to dissolve the U.S. Constitution creating the first-ever Social Enterprise Employee Stock Ownership Country (SEESOC). Quickly, the people find they have really just become corporate slaves, locked inside two Great Walls separating Mexico and Canada. Tagged with barcodes and endlessly watched by Security Services, the dystopian novel, 2034, illustrates just how George Orwell's prophecy could be unfolding. Despite The Corporation's control of all information and annihilation of memory and history, one man will risk his life for love and freedom. The novel, 2034 is a haunting tale of mass ignorance, "MediaThink" and materialism, all leading to an inevitable destiny: the loss of Freedom.

Review:

Though 2034 is a fictional novel, at moments while reading this book, I couldn't help to question whether many of the affairs Whister has penned- are possibly becoming real?

The events that began to transpire in 2008 involving the financial markets and the lack of government oversight have brought to the forefront many issues facing the US as a nation. The sudden lack of confidence in our government has forced citizens of the US to begin questioning the validity of the politicians that make decisions for the most powerful country in the world.

In the book, 2034, Mark is able to answer some of the questions regarding the government and at the same time, present questions we may have never thought of in our wildest dreams. For a right winger like myself I do not subscribe to the plethora of conspiracy theories found on the internet involving the government. That being said, what Mark has done with this book is remarkable... Mark has raised some serious questions about "information" and many modern events unfolding, all with concrete questions (backed up with credible information.) From beginning to end, 2034 had me thinking about the "WHAT IF?" and "can that really be true?" questions.

Overall, the book is a great read anyone on either side of the aisle will enjoy.

While attempting to not give too much away, the book opened with an almost frightening examination of our current events; however, as I continued reading Whistler somehow stealthily shifted the entire 'tone' of the story...

In retrospect, somewhere midway into 2034, I suddenly had the epiphany the author's message subtly transformed from worry…into hope, freedom, excitement, romance, and gratitude. Moreover, the book packs a huge punch with a major surprise ending that will likely leave readers breathless, though completely fulfilled.

Whistler has done an amazing job weaving today's economics, politics and current events into a fictional suspense-filled love story. At the very least, 2034 will open your eyes to questions that may have been laughed at in the past, in terms of the global economy. Unfortunately, the past year has changed the world as we know it, and maybe, it is time to begin asking the "WHAT IF" questions. Finally, because I have been a professional acquaintance of Whistler for several years, when asked to review 2034, I felt the need to examine the manuscript with an even more critical eye than I normally would. However, despite intentions of approaching 2034 with overly objective analysis, I discovered Mark has truly created an engaging and exciting novel…destining readers for a wild ride. When Mark presented the concept for this novel several years ago, I thought he was a bit mad. Things were in their heyday; financial markets were rocking, and everything was humming along quite well. This, except for the fact that we were (and still are) at war. With all of the wealth that was made (and subsequently lost) in the run-up to the recent recession and market crash, there has been a natural backlash against free markets. In America where money is power, it is the Capitalists and entrepreneurs that are being persecuted. It is the Collectivists, and Socialists that are pointing the finger and saying I told you so. There is a sense of indignation and a process of retribution happening right now, like never before. And today as the book goes to print, we are starting to see the very fabric of our society being absolutely torn apart. Never before has our Government more questionably managed money, property, our values, and most of all our freedom. This book is for all of you that still truly believe in freedom. And for those of you that might be convinced to come around. - Z. Springborn --Editor

Book Description Createspace. Paperback. Book Condition: New. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. The Orwellian novel 2034 is truly a story about Freedom, hope, love, and gratitude. Based on George Orwells famous book 1984. . . 2034 parallels Orwells 1984 in the beginning, but then takes a sudden twist and the story diverges significantly. . . Written in 2007 and 2008, and then first published in December of 2008 and March of 2009, 2034 is a wake up call. . . Though the Orwellian, dystopian novel 2034 The Corporation Post 2012 is fiction, the work challenges readers with over 80 footnotes citing actual reports, legislation, economic data and official transcripts highlighting just how the story could presently be walking a fine line between theory and reality. Excerpt from Chapter 1: Despite the harsh reality of modern economic times, and the possible political and economic events looming in the future. . . 2034 is a story of hope, love, empathy and compassion. 2034 is really about The Form of the Good. Falling into the financial crisis, many politicians professed great care for the economically destitute individuals of America, though really the elected officials (and lobbyists) were truly wolves in sheeps clothing. Trillions of taxpayer dollars were allocated under the guise of economic stimulus, but the money never really landed in the hands of the people. Large Corporations were the true beneficiaries. The politicians figured that if the ship was sinking anyway, they might as well double down on their bets; hoping increased speculation would repair the hulls ruptures. Inevitably, the Government folded when the dollar fell through the floor, as interest rates rocketed through the roof, all derived from the complete deterioration of the credit quality of U. S. Treasury Securities and by extension, the Government. Simply put, the national debt escalated to a point where even foreign investors would not buy into the gamble that had become America. Sadly, the media played a starring role too, actively keeping the American public apart from reality, while The Corporation put its army of gluttonous political henchmen and lobbying opportunists to work. . .
