Regardless of playing style, sooner or later every team will have a need to protect a lead late in the game. Other teams, for strategic reasons, may desire to play at a very deliberate pace for an entire game. Yet other teams may use the delay game as a tactical weapon, slowing the game down only for brief periods of time in order to disrupt the opponent's rhythm. Regardless of why a team may choose to use a delay offense, it is essential for the coach to select the delay offense that best fits the personnel available to that team. Delay Games: Holding The Ball describes ten different delay offenses AND describes the advantages and disadvantages of each. The author has run all ten of the delay games in this book during his 20+ year coaching career. Nearly all of the delay games described in Delay Games: Holding The Ball were originally discovered by the author by having to defend these delay offenses in actual varsity games.
