Karin is the adventurous type, but when her husband asks her to come with him to his home country, the USA, she cringes at the thought. Leaving a well organized, comfortable, secure life in Munich, Germany, to start over from scratch in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at age 49, doesn't seam like a wise move. Just for the sake of sanity Karin begins to write her adventures down in a blog, and also in this book. You are invited to follow along as the big move takes Karin to her new life on a new continent. New adventures will be added as they happen; the latest entry is dated 3/10/2017.

Karin Brenig was born in 1956 in Goettingen, Germany. She grew up with three younger siblings in and around Muenchen (Munich), Germany. Her father's job took the family to the USA in 1960, and again in 1976, where Karin learned to speak English, almost without an accent. In 1985 Karin met her first husband on a motorcycle trip through Spain, which motivated her to learn Spanish too. The year 1989 brought a united Germany, and the birth of Karin's only daughter. Life looked good, at least from the outside, with a high-paying job as a Senior Programmer, a nice condo on the outer edge of Munich, a healthy child, and an easy-going husband. Maybe a little too easy-going, tending to slack off and leave his wife holding the basket more than once. Late 1998 Karin Brenig met her second husband on the internet, at a time when most people in Germany didn't have a computer at home, let alone internet access. Both felt a strong affection, like having known each other forever, and wanted to live together ASAP. It was a lot easier to move an American to Germany, than the other way around. So Karin's new love moved to Munich in January 2000. After the couple had divorced both their previous spouses and mastered the paperwork for immigration to the USA, they moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in January 2006. Karin Brenig started to write a weblog about the big move accross the Atlantic and later decided, in order to make the blog more permanent, to publish its content as a printed book. The book contains a little bit of history before the blogging, but other than that it is kept in synch with posts and photos of the blog.
