How can a young student barely out of high school concentrate on college in a city where the Mitchell brothers invented lap dancing? Jim Mitchell studied film at San Francisco State University as teachers cut class to start war revolts. Artie Mitchell arrived to rescue Jim from the distractions of university life and the theatre on O'Farrell and Polk was created Independence Day, July 4, 1969. Artie and Jim's dream would later include Marilyn Chambers, Nina Hartley, Hunter S. Thompson, Tempest Storm, and Willie Brown. Thomas Chi's grandfather lived a few doors down from the theatre. He attended San Francisco State University. After Thomas returned from reporting on the Iraqi war in Greece and Egypt, where he interviewed Kuwaiti citizens that escaped the first Persian Gulf War, Thomas needed a job at night so that he could finish college in six years. His girlfriend graduated from lap dances to stripping for porn producers and got Thomas a job at the O'Farrell Theatre for Christmas.
