In 1896 Herzl envisioned the founding of a future independent Jewish state. He argued that the best way to avoid anti-Semitism in Europe was to create this state and mentioned the possibility of a Jewish state in Argentina. The movement culminated in the birth of the State of Israel in 1948! Sadly, the Jewish State of Israel was only established after the Holocaust had resulted in the tragic murder of about 40% of European Jewry. As in Herzl's utopian vision, Israel evolved into an advanced, technological society, and his vision of a secular, liberal democracy inspired the Israeli Declaration of Independence!
