9781450555869: Stealing Thunder: (Thunderstruck Series Volume Two) (The Thunderstruck Series)

Ten years have passed since the events of Thunder under the Badlands. Explorers Jason and Jordan are taken hostage and forced to return to the underground sea known as Cretacea, where they find an enormous laboratory set up by the US government.

Jason and Jordan quickly learn that Cretacea is very unstable, and a collapse is imminent. Though skeptical of the government’s motives, they support an effort to remove the unique species from Cretacea and relocate them above the surface; however, no habitat on the planet can sustain one of the species: the arachnid-like Chill.

As a solution, the government hatches a plan to send the Chill to Jupiter’s moon Europa, known for having a liquid sea beneath its frozen surface. Part of the plan involves creating an ecosystem around the moon’s hydrothermal vents and genetically altering the Chill to better adapt; however, the government isn’t being forthcoming with their intentions.

Through it all, Jordan and Jason must determine what’s right and what’s dangerous. The second book in the Thunderstruck series, Stealing Thunder deftly expands on the world of Thunder under the Badlands, taking the reader on a journey from deep underground to the cold chaos of space.

Book Description Paperback. Book Condition: New. Thomas Lawson Binninger (illustrator). Paperback. 148 pages. Ten years after escaping from Cretacea, Jordan and Jason are forced to return there as the hostages of a militant group of Native Americans. There, they discover that the United States government has turned the subterranean, prehistoric world into its own private laboratory. When Jason and one of the Sioux braves becomes infected with Organism Alpha, the group must reveal its presence in the hopes that the researchers now have a cure for this lethal disease. Fortunately, they are correct. Inside the huge complex, which has been built next to Lava Lake, they begin to learn the scope of the militarys agenda. They are only told part of the story, however, the part that is ingenious and completely acceptable. The researchers have concluded that Jasons father, Nathan, was correct and Cretacea is unstable. They are involved in an effort to rescue the many endangered species that live there. But there is one species for which there is no place on the Earth from which mankind would be safe; the Chill, the giant arachnid predecessors to the subphylum Chelicerata. Their plan involves transplanting them to Europa, a moon of the planet Jupiter. Its previously been determined that a liquid sea exists beneath its frozen surface. The scientists intent to create an ecosystem like the one in Cretacea around the hydrothermal vents that have been found at the bottom of the alien ocean. In order to be sure the Chill can survive in this extremely hostile environment, there has been experimentation involving gene splicing. Theyve taken the most dangerous predator ever to exist on Earth and theyve attempted to improve it. Unfortunately, by using genetic material from a highly classified source, they have more than succeeded. This item ships from multiple locations. Your book may arrive from Roseburg,OR, La Vergne,TN.
