By definition a mood is, a relatively long lasting emotional state. Landscapes and seascapes are visual representations of the world around us that convey a moment, capture an expression and freeze time. In the hands of the right artist, these visuals can evoke a mood, and when combined with the beauty of nature, visuals of wildlife, flora and panoramic vistas the moods created indeed will last a long time. Finally, when these moodscapes use Sanibel as a backdrop, Sanibel Moodscapes is the result. Sanibel Moodscapes combines free form poetry and photography into a wonderful coffee table book that conveys the author's love for Sanibel, to which she simply says, If you love Sanibel, you will love this book. Inspiration for her prose comes to her during her long, reflective, and contemplative walks on the island. It is then she is most deeply moved by the beauty and serenity of Sanibel.

Angelika Geerlof, who holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Art History, Art Education and Studio Arts, first visited Sanibel June 28, 2004. When she and her family crossed the causeway from Fort Myers to Sanibel she was immediately awed by its beauty, serenity, vibrant colors, brilliant sunsets and variety of shells. Geerlof simply described it as being home to her soul. In her many visits since then, she has lovingly portrayed Sanibel using descriptive prose and photography. Her images capture island birds, sunsets, skies, and foliage, while her prose enhances these with her thoughts and words about Sanibel. Finally, combining these two passions, she has created her anthology, Sanibel Moodscapes. Her prose makes one feel the moods, emotion, and sensitive observations of a stroll along the beaches of Sanibel. She further shares her love of Sanibel in the production of annual calendars. She has also designed a collection of unique postcards and blankl gift cards. Her work, which she describes as a Blessing and a labor of love, can be found in several of the elite shops of Sanibel Island. Partial proceeds from all sales are pledged to go to Cancer Research in memory of her husband Raymond.Review:
Like many first time visitors to Sanibel, Angelika Geerlof was enchanted during her original trip to the island seven years ago. Inspired by the "beauty, tranquility, serenity and the gift of solitude" Geerlof found on Sanibel, she has produced a lovely coffee table hardback book composed of nature and wildlife photos enhanced by her own descriptive free-verse poetry. Entitled "Sanibel Moodscapes", the beautiful 11 by 8 1/2-inch book "is an anthology of expressive prose and creative images depicting my appreciation of this lovely place," according to Geerlof, who was born in Germany's Black Forest and came to America at the age of three. "By definition a mood is a relatively long-lasting emotional state'" the author explained. She has dedicated the book to her husband, Raymond, who died in 2009 from lung cancer. "For Bo...in loving memory of the lasting, lifetime memories we created, and in gratitude for sharing Sanibel with me for the first time, June 28, 2004 and all the times thereafter," Geerlof wrote. The book would be a welcome gift for any Sanibel lover, and contains more than 50 high-quality, professional-grade photos on coated paper. Birds on the wing, exotic flowers, purple sunsets on the gulf, colorful shells, roseate spoonbills, and creatures from the sea are all among the photos. "It's here that time stands still...there are no days, there are no hours, just a moment caught in time...and for just that very moment, I leave my world behind. I leave my footprints in the sand where gentle breezes blow...and every step takes pain away and helps to clear the soul," Geerlof wrote. The author who holds a bachelor of arts degree in art history, art education and studio arts, has started work on a second book, "Chasing Sunsets, Sanibel Style." She is available for book signings at 10 a.m. on Saturdays at Paradise of Sanibel in the Periwinkle Place Shopping Center; at noon on Saturdays at Suncatcher's Dream, located in the Olde Sanibel Shoppes next to the Over Easy Cafe; and at 9:30 on Sundays at the Sporty Seahorse Shop, 362 Periwinkle Way, near the loghthouse.
