On The Lord’s Pillow portrays a boy and his immigrant parents struggling to succeed in a strange new country. Seen through the boy’s innocent eyes, the ten stories include his parents’ battle with a baffling language and elemental approaches to dealing with injustice. They experience painful setbacks, but through perseverance, joyful breakthroughs as well.
Witness to his parents’ struggle, the boy grows up between the tension of an ambitious, charismatic, rule bending mother, and his brooding, hot tempered, noble father prone to dalliance. Bending social norms in order to make way, their indiscretions frequently challenge the boy’s religious schooling.
As the innocent’s arc of childhood advances, at times in dream and visions, the final stories ponder which of his conflicting influences will mark his path to adolescence.
