About the Author

Dr. Milton C. Sernett taught history at Syracuse University for thirty years. He is the author of ten books and many articles on topics in American history. Among his books are North Star Country: Upstate New York and the Crusade for African American Freedom; Abolition's Axe: Beriah Green, Oneida Institute and the Black Freedom Struggle; and Harriet Tubman: Myth, Memory and History. Sernett is a founding member of The National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, located in Peterboro, New York.
